Prime Minister Harold Wilson, the guest of honor at a dinner last night of the British Friends of the Hebrew University, praised British Jewry for helping to cement British-Israeli relations. He was the first British Prime Minister to be honor guest at such an occasion, marking the 40th anniversary of the university.

He told a brilliant audience of 420 persons, who included a wide range of British leaders in government, education and diplomacy, that he had long supported causes connected with Israel, such as Youth Aliyah and that he was happy to help celebrate the university’s 40th anniversary. “We and the Government of Israel have reason to be satisfied with the state of our relations,” he told the dinner audience. Lord Cohen, president of the Friends, presided.
