The House Foreign Affairs Committee today made known hearings will begin Monday on Soviet anti-Semitism, when members of Congress will testify on a resolution condemning anti-Jewish acts in the Soviet Union.
The hearings will be held by a subcommittee under the chairmanship of Congresswoman Edna Kelly, New York Democrat. The scope of the hearings covers anti-religious activities in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. Public testimony will be heard on Tuesday from members of the public and representatives of non-governmental groups. On Wednesday, the subcommittee will hear witnesses on aspects of bias in Eastern Europe pertaining to other religious faiths.
The resolution is similar to one introduced in the Senate by Sen. Abraham Ribicoff. Connecticut Democrat. The House version is supported by over 100 Congressmen.
