Israel’s Independence Day Celebrated by Jews in New York

Hundreds of leaders in all Jewish organizations here, national and local, participated today in the celebration of the 17th anniversary of the establishment of Israel. They were the guests of Ambassador Katriel Katz, Israel’s Consul General, at a reception given by him in the Israeli Consulate in honor of Israel’s Independence Day.

Recptions were also given by the Israel Mission to the United Nations and by the American Zionist Council, the central coordinating body of all Zionist groups in the United States. An Independence Day celebration, catered mainly for Israelis who live in New York, will be held on May 16 in the Statler Hilton Hotel under the patronage of Ambassador Katz. A program of Israeli entertainment will be given and it will be entirely in Hebrew.

Reports on celebrations of Israel’s Indepenence Day were received by the JTA from various cities in the United States as well as from a number of countries a Europe.
