The Ontario Human Rights Commission has rejected a complaint filed by John Beattie, self-styled leader of the “Canadian Nazi Party,” claiming that he is the victim of discrimination. The 23-year-old old “funrer” complained that he was fired from his $75 a week job with a surgical supply firm because of his political beliefs. The dismissal came immediately after he publicly announced his “leadership” of Canada’s Nazi party.

His dismissal, Beattle said, was a violation of the Ontario Human Rights Code which states that a person cannot be fired from a job because of his race, color or creed. Beattie maintains that Nazism is a creed. Commission officials rejected the complaint after obtaining a legal opinion to the effect that creed means religious rather than political beliefs. Beattie can now appeal the commission ruling.
