Six persons convicted of mass murder of Polish and Russian citizens during World War II have been sentenced to death by shooting in Krasnodar, northern Caucasus, the Soviet news agency Tass reported. The report carefully avoided mentioning that the victims were mostly Jews.
Tass said the accused had taken part in mass killings of victims held in Sobibor and Belzec death camps in Poland and at Yanovsky near Lvov in the Ukraine. More than 40 witnesses said the defendants shot camp inmates and herded them into gas chambers, not sparing old people, women, or children.
