A total of 225 graduate fellowships in social science and international affairs have been established in universities in New York state in memory of the late Gov. Herbert H. Lehman, under a new state law.
The bill establishing the fellowships was signed by Gov. Nelson A. Rockefeller in the presence of Mrs. Lehman and Federal Judge Edward Weinfeld, a member of the committee which recommended the fellowship program. The fellowships, involving an annual cost of $1,000,000, will provide $4,000 a year for candidates for master’s degrees and those in the first year of work for doctorates, and $5,000 a year for other doctoral candidates.
