The Alberto Gerchunoff Literary Prize for 1965 has been awarded to the well-known Argentine Journalist Bernardo Verbitsky for his book “It’s Difficult to Begin to Live”. The prize is given by the Argentine Institute for Culture and Information, an affiliate of the American Jewish Committee.Verbitsky is also the author of several books of essarys and literary criticism.
The prize is named after the late Alberto Gerchunoff, a Polish-born Jew who distinguished himself as one of Argentire’s most influential journalists. He was the editor-in-chief of that country’s largest daily, La Nacion, and the author of several books including a novel on rural Jewish life in Argentina and critical studies of European literature.
