Officials of the Assize Court here, which has been trying 20 former officers and guards of the Auschwitz murder camp since December 1963, said today that verdicts in the case would be handed down on August 18. Between 3,000,000 and 4,000,000 victims, most of them Jews, were murdered during the operation of the camp, the largest of the Nazi death camps.
It was announced in Bonn today that trial will begin there on September 21 of 10 former members of one of the Einsatz commando units which executed thousands of civilians and suspected partisans in the wake of Hitler’s conquering legions in World War II. The former members of Einsatz Squad Four are charged with the murder of slave laborers and Jews in December, 1944 and February, 1945. They include several Germans now holding civil service posts in West Germany as well as a police major in Mannheim.
