Oreation of National Jewish Youth Council Authorized at Conference

SIGN UP FOR THE JTA DAILY BRIEFING

The creation of a national Jewish youth council for the United States and Canada was recommended today by the almost 200 delegates at the Second North American Regional Conference of Jewish Youth at the four-day conclave held at Camp B’nai B’rith.

Delegates representing 22 national Jewish youth groups, with member ships totaling more than 250,000 charged the planning committee that organized the regional conference to consider steps toward the formation of a permanent national Jewish youth council. The delegates also voted to recommend another meeting of the regional conference next year. The planning committee’s proposal for a permanent youth council will be submitted to the governing boards of the youth group attending the conference.

Meanwhile, the conference urged the participating organizations to create program aides for unified action by the youth groups on both national and local levels. Pending creation of the national council on a permanent basis, the delegates urged formation of local youth councils throughout the United States and Canada.
