Arthur J. Goldberg to Absent Self from U.N. Post on High Holy Days

SIGN UP FOR THE JTA DAILY BRIEFING

Ambassador Arthur J. Goldberg, chairman of the United States delegation to the United Nations, declared here today, in answer to an inquiry, that he plans to absent himself from the U.N. post both on Rosh Ha shanah and Yom Kippur. “Unless an extreme emergency arises,” he said, “I shall be in synagogue on those days, just as all other Jews will be.”

His wife, Mrs. Dorothy Goldberg, told inquirers that the Ambassador and she had not yet decided on a choice of a synagogue or temple for their High Holy Day attendance. She said they had received “many invitations,” some of the congregations asking that they attend at least some of the services at their house of worship.
