Fifty delegates from eight Latin American countries concluded here tonight the annual conference of the South American executive of the World Jewish Congress. The parley opened its deliberations Saturday night and ended at a gala rally addressed, among others, by Chilean Minister of the Interior Bernardo Leighton and Dr. Uri Naor, Israeli Ambassador to Chile.
Among the principal items on the agenda were the general situation of Jewry in Latin America, and specifically the work of the World Jewish Congress among the Jewish youth in South America. Dr. Isaac Goldenberg, president of DAIA, the central organized body of Argentine Jewry, reported on the general situation, while the report on Jewish youth was given by Manuel Tenebaum, of Uruguay. Other countries represented, in addition to Argentina, Uruguay and Chile, were Mexico, Panama, Brazil, Bolivia and Peru.
In his address, Mr. Leighton greeted the WJC executive on behalf of the Chilean Government. Other speakers at the final session included Dr. Moises Goldman, of Argentina, chairman of the WJC’s South American executive; and Gil Sinay, of this city, who greeted the delegates on behalf of the Central Committee of Jewish Communities in Chile.
