Jews in Brazil Thank Government for Effort at U. N.

The Confederation of Jewish Communities today lauded the role of the Brazilian Government at the United Nations in joining with the United States in sponsoring a measure specifically condemning anti-Semitism. The proposal, an amendment to a projected U. N. declaration against discrimination, was not approved because of a maneuver of the Soviet delegation at the United Nations.

The Jewish Confederation praise of the Brazilian move was presented to the Foreign Ministry by a delegation representing the organization. The Confederation also protested to the Soviet Embassy against the move by the Soviet delegation at the same U. N. meeting attempting to bracket anti-Semitism with Nazism. Both the U. S.-Brazil amendment and the Soviet measure were later banned by a resolution barring all references to specific forms of discrimination.
