The appointment of Louis D. Horwitz as resident representative in Israel for the Jewish Agency for Israel, Inc, was announced here today by Dr. Dewey D. Stone, chairman of the board of the Agency. Mr. Horwitz succeeds Dr. Ernest Stock, who has resigned to accept an appointment as director of the Jacob Hiatt Institute of Brandeis University in Israel. Mr. Horwitz will assume his post on December 1.

“As our resident representative,” Dr. Stone stated, “Mr. Horwitz will act as liaison with the Jewish Agency for Israel, Jerusalem — the instrumentality through which the various activities in Israel, financed by the Jewish Agency, New York, with funds made available by the United Jewish Appeal, are conducted. These include the transportation, care and assistance of refugee immigrants to Israel from various parts of the world; providing housing and other necessities upon their arrival; and aiding their absorption into Israel’s economic and social life.”
