Observance of Jewish Book Month was started this weekend in more than 2,000 Jewish institutions and groups throughout the United States under the slogan “A Jewish Library in Every Jewish Home.” Jewish Book Month is conducted annually under the auspices of the Jewish Book Council of the National Jewish Welfare Board to promote an understanding of an appreciation for Jewish literature.
Jewish Book Month programs have been scheduled by Jewish Community Centers and YM-YWHAs, synagogues, libraries, Hillel Foundations, PTAs of Jewish schools, bureaus of Jewish education, local chapters of national Jewish organizations, Jewish military chaplains and JWB Armed Forces and Veterans Services Committees. They include book fairs, dramatizations, lectures, forums, panel discussions, exhibits, children’s events, radio and television programs and book reviews.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
