The target sum to be raised outside the United States in 1966-1967 by the Keren Hayesod, the financial arm of the World Zionist Organization, will total $18, 000, 000, it was announced here today by Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the Keren Hayesod. The organization known generally as the United Israel Appeal, receives its funds from the United States through the United Jewish Appeal there.
Dr. Goldstein set the 1966-67 quota as he opened the annual meeting of the Keren Hayesod’s world council, with the delegates including national chairmen and other high-ranking leaders from 16 countries including Europe, South America, South Africa and Israel. The $18, 000, 000 figure compares with $16, 000,000 raised in 1965 and $12, 000, 000 raised five years ago.
The Keren Hayesod head announced a number of large contributions. One amounts to 250,000 pounds sterling ($700,000) donated by British Jews for the establishment of the Kochav village in the Lachish area. Others included 114,000 pounds sterling ($319,200) for a home for the aged in Herzliah; and 100, 000 pounds sterling ($280, 000) for a housing project at Migdal Haemek. In each case, the projects, when completed, Dr. Goldstein said, will bear the names of the respective donors.
