The Jewish Welfare Fund Appeal this year will seek to raise $6,220,000 for the highest goal in its history. The figure was adopted by the board of trustees of the Jewish Community Federation, which sponsors the annual campaign. The 1965 campaign realized $6,070,220 for the greatest total todate.
The board approved the recommendations of the budget committee which, under the chairmanship of Edward Ginsberg, reviewed the financial requests of beneficiary agencies and proposals of the campaign leadership. The annual campaign aids 122 local, national and overseas agencies, of which the United Jewish Appeal is the major beneficiary.
A factor in the higher Cleveland goal, according to Samuel H. Miller, general campaign chairman, is the higher operating costs of local beneficiary agencies, including wage and salary adjustments. Mr. Miller reported that the top leadership posts for the 1966 campaign are being filled and that several pace-setting events are scheduled during the next several weeks. Official dates of the campaign have been set at April 21 to May 12.
