Mayor James Clarkson of Southfield, a suburb of Detroit, announced today that the Southfield City Council had endorsed a suggestion by Gov. George Romney that a section of a Michigan expressway be named Adler Freeway, in memory of the late Rabbi Morris Adler who was fatally wounded by a congregant in his Shaarey Zedek Synagogue in Southfield last month. The Synagogue building overlooks the freeway.
Both the Governor and the Mayor were long-time friends of the late Conservative rabbinical leader, who died on March 11 after having been in a coma for about three weeks following the shooting.
