Desecration of 240 Tombstones in New York Jewish Cemetery Reported

New York police authorities on Staten Island, one of the city’s boroughs, were still searching today for vandals who desecrated the Baron de Hirsch Cemetery in that area early this month, it was reported Wednesday.

The superintendent of the cemetery, Ronald Gresser, today notified relatives of deceased interred in the burial grounds that 240 tombstones had been overturned in the cemetery. He reported that the desecration had taken place during the weekend of April 2-3, on the eve of Passover, There was no explanation of the reason why no report of the desecration had been made until now.
