Bar-Ilan University of Ramat Gan has been granted an absolute charter of recognition by the Board of Regents of New York State, Dr. Joseph Lookstein of New York, acting president, and Philip Stollman of Detroit, national chairman, announced here today.
With issuance of the charter, the 11-year-old university’s bachelor’s and master’s degrees in all subjects and doctoral degrees in Judaic studies are formally recognized throughout the United States. The coeducational school has 2,208 students, 105 of them Americans.
As a result of the charter, American students at Bar-Ilan receive full credit on returning to or entering a United States institution of higher learning. The two American Bar-Ilan University leaders said they felt the new status would stimulate increased American student enrollment and attract leading American scholars to the university staff. The university is now engaged in a $10, 000, 000 development program to provide for an enrollment of 4, 000 students within five years. Dr. Lookstein and Mr. Stollman said.
