The Austrian Information Office here reported today that Taras Borodjkewycz, whose presence on the faculty of the Vienna School of Economics created widespread student disorders over charges he was a Nazi, has been placed in permanent retirement.
The report said that the professor was suspended from duty last year and relieved of his post and placed in permanent retirement by the school’s disciplinary Senate last month. The presence of the professor, who openly professed anti-Semitic and anti-democratic principles, caused a demonstration in March, 1965 in which an elderly concentration camp survivor, Ernst Kirschweger, was fatally injured.
The senate of the school issued judgement on May 14, declaring that a man who followed anti-Semitic principles was “completely incompetent” to teach in an Austrian institute of higher learning. The Information Office said that enforced retirement was one of the most severe sentences an Austrian college or university may impose.
