Two Los Angeles Donors to Give $600, 000 for Sport Centers in Israel

A $500, 000 contribution has been pledged to the Israel Education Fund of the United Jewish Appeal by a Los Angeles philanthropist for construction of five sports centers at high schools here. His name is to be announced at a later date.

Mr. Joseph D. Shane, Los Angeles Jewish community leader, announced at the conclusion of a visit here that he is adding $100, 000 to his anonymous friend’s $500, 000 commitment. Mr. Shane’s gift will be earmarked for the promotion of tennis and the provision of equipment. He also announced the establishment of an annual Joseph D. Shane Trophy to be awarded to the Israel tennis star, instructor, tournament manager or other person making the greatest contribution to the advancement of tennis in Israel.
