Samuel J. Silberman, prominent business and community leader, was elected president of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York at the organization’s Board of Trustees meeting last right. Mr. Silberman, who served as president-elect during the past year, succeeds Irving Mitchell Felt who is retiring after three terms as president.
In 1964, Mr. Silberman announced a sizeable grant to the city that made possible the construction of a new building for the expansion of the School of Social Work at Hunter College. Last week, at its commencement exercises, Hunter honored Mr. and Mrs. Silberman with the award of President’s Medals in recognition of their contribution which has strengthened the school’s resources and facilities for the training of professional social workers.
