The American Council for Judaism today denied a report in the New York press that Elmor Berger, its executive vice-president had visited King Faisal of Caudi Arabia and expressed regret over the cancelation by Mayor John V. Lindsay and Governor Rockefeller of arrangements with the king for his remarks in Washington that Jews supporting Israel were his “enemies.”
“Neither Elmer Berger nor any authorized spokesman for the Council was anywhere near the Waldorf-Astoria and King Faisal, wither last Tuesday or any time since the king has been in the United States, ” a statement issued by Richard Korn, ACJ president, said.
The statement emphasized that Benjamin Friedman, who was reported to have visited the king, is “far from being a member of the Council” and that he is “the chief contributor to Conde MeGinley’s anti-Semitic publication, Common Cense.” Mr. Korn also stressed that Alfred Lilienthal, who was also reported to have visited the Saudi Arabian ruler, “had no authority to say anything to anyone as a spokesman for the Council.”
