Three Israeli Arabs convicted of membership in a Syrian espionage ring were sentenced here to prison terms of seven years each. The court ruled that the defendants passed valuable information to Syria, prejudicial to Israel’s security.
The three Arabs are Budrus Saudah, Viahmoud Omariya, and Mouhammed Mahmoud. A fourth member of the ring, Ahmed Khalil, was sentenced Tuesday to a three-year term. Saudah was accused of going to Syria eight years ago after a quarrel with his family. He returned that year after receiving training in espionage in Syria and carried out orders to enlist other Israeli Arabs in the espionage.
The four Arabs were found guilty of giving information on military camps in the Haifa area and access roads to them, as well as photographs of postal communications, installations and movements of warships in the Haifa Bay area.
