Two inspectors of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s regional office in Cairo, one of them a Moroccan citizen, left here today for Cyprus en route back to Cairo after a weeklong inspection of Israel’s Lydda Airport facilities.
Before their departure, Ahmed Azouri, the first Moroccan ever to visit Israel on behalf of the Cairo based ICAC, and S. Haufa, a West German official of the ICAO, praised the “efficient running of Lydda installations” and said that everything was “well up to international standards.” Mr. Azouri is an expert in the field of airport operations and Mr. Haufa is a meteorologist.
In meetings with the two officials, Naftali Ben-Yehuda, director of the Israel Transport Ministry’s Civil Aviation Department, raised the problem of the lack of sufficient contact between Israel and the ICAO regional office in Cairo. Mr. Azouri and Mr. Haufa promised to forward the complaint to the ICAO headquarters in Montreal. Both officials expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded them in Israel.
