The Council of Orthodox Synagogues of Greater Washington has complained to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that its recently promulgated guidelines to employers, regarding religious discriminations, relegate Sabbath-observing Jews and members of other religious groups to the rank of “second class labor force.”
In a letter to Dr. Luther Holcomb, chairman of the Federal Commission, Julian Landau, president of the Council of Orthodox Synagogues here, stated that the Commission’s June 14 guidelines “seriously disturb” the Orthodox Jews. He urged the Commission to issue new regulations adequately protecting “the religious rights and liberties of all Americans.”
