A $12,593,550 expansion program was announced here today by Beth Israel Hospital on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its founding. Samuel L. Slosberg, president of the hospital, who disclosed details of the program at a meeting of the institution’s board of trustees, said that the expansion was designed to increase substantially the capacity of the hospital to meet community needs for high quality patient care.
Mr. Slosberg said that, with $3,900,000 now available or expected from government sources, the hospital would seek the balance of $8,693,550 through contributions from individuals, business organizations and foundations. According to the expansion plans, the new buildings, which are expected to be completed by 1970, will include an ultra-modern inpatient building of eight stories with 160 beds, and two four-story buildings for diagnostic and therapeutic activities. In addition there will be extensive renovation of existing facilities.
