Hebrew U. Summer Courses Mapped for U.S. Jewish Community Workers

Professional Jewish community workers of the United States will receive special training next summer at the Hebrew University, of Jerusalem, aimed at “the development of world Jewish perspectives, “it was announced here today at the second conference of the America-Israel University Program of the American Friends of the Hebrew University. This will be the first phase of a continuing program to be known as the World Seminar for Jewish Studies, it was stated. The conference was addressed by Prof. Nathan Rotenstreich, rector of the Hebrew University, Prof. Oscar I. Janowsky, co-chairman of the America-Israel University Program presided.

It was further announced that detailed plans for the World Seminar had been approved by a subcommittee of executive heads of American Jewish organizations and institutions. Members of the subcommittee are Philip Bernstein, executive director of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds; Dr. Seymour Fox, dean of Teachers Institute of The Jewish Theological Seminary; and Sanford Solender, executive vice-president of the National Jewish Welfare Board.

The conference was preceded by a meeting of the academic committee of the Hebrew University’s board of governors, under the chairmanship of Prof. Albert Neuberger, of London, a distinguished biochemist. This was the first meeting of this body held outside of Jerusalem. The participants included eminent scholars, among them, Sir Isiah Berlin, of Britain; Prof. Rotenstreich; and the following American scholars: Prof. Milton Handler, Dr. Janowksy, Dr. S.B. Deutsch and Dr. David Wechsler.
