Dr. Albert Pfitzer, who was named by Chancellor Ludwig Erhard last week to succeed Dr. Ludwig Westrick as head of the chancellery office, ad-misted here today that he had been a member of the Nazi Party as well as of its SS (Elite Guard). Asserting that he had joined the Nazi Party when he was a 21-year-old student. Dr. Pfitzer said he had been a “simple member without rank and without taking part in any activities.” He added that “nothing in my past life can be a political burden to me.”
Political sources here predicted that Dr. Pfitzer’s appointment might not be confirmed because of his past record. At a news conference today, Government spokesman Karl-Gunther von Hase said that no date had been set for Chancellor Erhard to present Dr. Pfitzer’s nomination to President Heinrich Luebke, who must make the official appointments.
