Shmuel Yosef Agnon, the famous Hebrew author who, with another Jewish writer, Miss Nelly Sachs, of Sweden, will share this year’s Nobel Prize for literature, left today for Stockholm, where the Nobel awards will be presented next Saturday night.
Many leading Israelis were at Lydda Airport, whence Mr. Agnon departed by plane, to wish bon voyage to the author. Among those present were Minister of Education Zalman Aranne, and officials acting as personal representatives of President Zalman Shazar and Prime Minister Levi Eshkol. Among the participants in the airport ceremonies were school children who presented flowers to Mr. Agnon, Mrs. Agnon, and his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Chaim Yaron, accompanied him.
