Israel Celebrates Chanukah; Jerusalem Cancels Torchlight Parade

The traditional Chanukah menorahs appeared in windows of homes throughout the nation today as Israelis prepared for the lighting of the first candle of the holiday tonight and the eight-day-long celebration of the Feast of Lights.

While children in the cities and settlements were looking forward to gifts and money and the general festivities, many parts of the country showed the signs of the economic recession with the Jerusalem Municipality deciding to cancel its traditional torchlight parade by youth organizations.
