Senator Jacob K. Javits, the Republican who is the senior U. S. Senator representing New York State, projected himself yesterday as entitled to be nominated in 1968 as “at least” the Republican candidate for the Vice-Presidency.
In several appearances on television, and in off-the-air interviews, Mr. Javits, who has been mentioned as the possible GOP running mate to Michigan’s Governor George Romney, pointed out that he has been the Republican Party’s ideologist for 20 years, and that he has proved himself as qualified by showing he is “responsible and farsighted.”
“I think,” he said, “I am entitled to national consideration. I don’t want to minimize it all. I think I am entitled to a national position by what I have done.”
