Weizmann Institute officials disclosed today that a Soviet scientist is expected to come to Israel to work for several weeks in the Institute’s molecular biology laboratory. He will be the first Russian scientist to do research work at the Institute. The scientist, whose name was not disclosed, does similar work in a Moscow Institute.
A leading Weizmann Institute nuclear scientist, Prof. Amos de Shalit, proposed today that the teaching of English in Israel’s schools should be started in the first grade instead of in the fifth grade, as at present. Speaking at a teachers seminar here, the scientist said that such a change would help pupils to read English-language scientific publications needed for modern science education at an early age.
