Leon Lerman, Soviet Yiddish Writer, Stalin Purge Victim, is Dead

Leon Lerman, a Soviet Yiddish writer and one of the contributors to the now defunct Moscow Yiddish daily, “Emes,” has died in the Soviet Union in his seventies, it was reported here today from Moscow. He was the author of a number of books including “Briefs,” and “Plantations.” During the Stalin purges which began in the late 1940’s, Lerman was arrested and exiled. He returned to Moscow in the early 1950’s a broken man.
