A pilot program to help solve the acute shortage of trained religious and communal workers in growing Jewish communities throughout France will begin here Thursday under sponsorship of the Joint Distribution Committee.
The project will be a study course for students of the two religious seminaries in France which will continue until March 23, according to Charles H. Jordan, executive vice-chairman of the JDC. There will be 23 participants, aged 20 to 28, who are studying for the rabbinate or undergoing teacher training at the Seminaire Israelite and the Institute International d’Etudes Hebraiques.
The course of 12 weekly lectures will seek to introduce the students to the concepts of program planning, leadership, group psychology and community study. After the course is evaluated, Mr. Jordan indicated, consideration will be given to follow-up courses with longer and more detailed sessions on those subjects.
