Army engineers were sent into southern Israel today to build emergency bridges to communities cut off by rains, snow and floods in two days of winter storms.

Helicopters were ordered to stand by to handle emergency evacuations. Settlments cut off from contact included Talmei Yaffe and Geah. Snow fell during the night on the upper Galilee mountains and the weather bureau forecast snow today on the Judean Mountains.
