An Italian Jewish Senator who is a leading member of the Italian Communist Party declared in a lecture here that there was a smaller percentage of Jews in the various Communist movements than their percentage of the total population in the various countries with such movements.
Sen. Umberto Terracini, speaking at the Weizmann Club on Communism and the Jews, said that anti-Semites and Fascists have consistently linked Jews with Communism to discredit them. He declared that some Jews have turned to Communism because of their position as “an oppressed minority in search of a revolutionary liberation.”
The Senator also again denounced the treatment of Russian Jews by the Soviet authorities. He had previously assailed the Soviet Government on that issue in an introduction he wrote for a recently-published collection of essays on Soviet Jews.
