Roberto Abreu Sodre, Governor of Sao Paulo, made a strong indictment of Nazism and all other forms of discrimination in an address yesterday to 3,000 persons who jammed Hebraica Hall here in commemoration of the 24th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Revolt.
Gov. Sodre, who two months ago announced the seizure of Franz Stangl, former commandant of the Treblinka and Sobibor death camps, said Brazilian public opinion expected the Brazilian Supreme Court to approve Stangl’s extradition to one of the three countries which want to try him for his wartime Nazi crimes. They are Austria, West Germany and Poland. The commemoration here was sponsored by the Sao Paulo Jewish Federation.
Acting Mayor Figueiredo Ferraz announced that a Sao Paulo street would be named the Street of the Heroes of Warsaw. Other speakers were Israel Consul General Feffer, the Polish Consul and others. Federation president Raphael Markman was chairman. The observances began with religious services and included a series of performances by Sao Paulo Jewish youth groups.
