Mortimer B. Harris, Jewish Leader, Elected President of Chicago Welfare Council

Mortimer B, Harris, Chicago business executive and civic leader, has been elected president of the Welfare Council of Metropolitan Chicago, He had been treasurer of the Welfare Council and its financial secretary. The Welfare Council is the central coordinating body for 265 public and voluntary health and welfare agencies in the Chicago area.

Mr. Harris is a former president of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago and a former general chairman of the Chicago Combined Jewish Appeal. Sigmund Kunstadter, vice-president of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, and James P. Rice, executive director of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, the Combined Jewish Appeal and the Jewish Welfare Fund, were elected members of the Welfare Council Board of Directors at the Council’s 52nd annual meeting at which Mr. Harris was elected to the presidency.
