The Union of American Hebrew Congregations called on President Johnson today to “take all necessary steps” to guarantee the “right of free and innocent passage for all shipping in the Gulf of Akaba.”

At a meeting of the organization’s board of trustees, the congregational representatives of 680 Reform temples in the United States and Canada, adopted a resolution expressing “profound concern” at developments in the Middle East which “seriously threaten the life of the State of Israel and the peace of the world,” and which the Reform Jewish leaders said, results from “Arab acts of hostility.”
