Defense Minister Moshe Dayan informed Arabs now living in the Gaza Strip that they will soon be able to travel to the occupied west bank of Jordan. The former Egyptian-controlled area, which extends into Israel’s southern coast, was taken over by Israeli troops during the recent hostilities.

Beginning next week, the Arab residents of the area will be able to obtain permits from the Israel military authorities to travel to the former Jordanian territory now occupied by Israel. General Dayan said buses and taxis will move through Israel on their way to the West Bank.

General Dayan, according to Kol Israel, the Israel radio network, said that although security problems in the Strip were now fairly satisfactory, a sizeable number of fedayeen terrorists were still at large, and that firearms are still hidden among the populace. For this reason, he said, sunset to sunrise curfew hours must still be enforced.
