The Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith and the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Philadelphia have put themselves on record as opposed to Federal help to religious school pupils, as provided for in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. That law permits aid to non-public school students.
In testimony at a public hearing here on planned Federally-funded programs, conducted by the Philadelphia Board of Education, opposition was voiced by Samuel Lewis Gaber, regional director of the ADL, and Sydney C. Orlofsky, president of the JCRC. At the same hearing, the Philadelphia Chapter, American Jewish Committee, advocated expansion of the “shared time” programs in which non-public school children may attend classes in public schools during part of the school day.
