A call for bilateral negotiations between Israel and the Arab countries to settle the Middle Eastern conflict and to move toward cooperation for social and economic progress was issued here at the 43rd session of the executive committee of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU).
The call for negotiations was contained in a lengthy resolution on the Middle East in which the ICFTU stated that it “considers that a peaceful solution in the Middle East cannot be found outside the governments primarily concerned.” Warning that the present conflict in that region “clearly constitutes a danger to world peace,” the resolution appealed to the United Nations, to other governments and to international organizations to support or encourage all peaceful initiatives for bilateral negotiations.
