More than 400 dignitaries from abroad will join with Israelis in November to observe Weizmann Month marking the 15th anniversary of the death of Israel’s first President, Dr. Chaim Weizmann, and the 50th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, in which Dr. Weizmann’s influence played a major role.

The main event will be a Weizmann-Balfour assembly on Nov. 2. at Rehovot where the late President made his home. President Shazar and Prime Minister Eshkol will attend. Expected from abroad is a British delegation, headed by Postmaster General Edward Short and including Lord Rothschild and Lady Asquith. Delegations are also expected from the United States and Canada.

The Joint Weizmann-Balfour events next month will be the occasion of the first official reception by the British Ambassador to be held in Jerusalem. Britain has never recognized Israel’s sovereignty in Jerusalem and has confined official functions to its legation in Tel Aviv. However, it is reported that Foreign Secretary George Brown granted permission to hold the reception in Jerusalem. In addition to the British, the Japanese and West Germans will hold receptions in Jerusalem on the occasion.
