The Synagogue of Hamandides in East Jerusalem, believed to be the oldest Jewish house of worship in the Old City, was rededicated yesterday in ceremonies attended by President Zalman Shazar. The synagogue is 700 years old.
Israeli police dispersed a group of youths who had tried to conduct public prayers on Temple Mount. The prayers had been held in defiance of a ban by the Israeli Chief Rabbinate.
