Jerusalem City Government Accepts Unified Labor Party; Kollek Remains Mayor

The Jerusalem municipality has a united labor party following the formal merger last night of the Israel Workers Party (Rafi) with the Alignment consisting of Mapai and Achdut Avodah. Unification of the three labor factions on a national scale will take place next month. Teddy Kollek, of Rafi, will remain Mayor of Jerusalem. His immediate predecessor in that office, Mordechai Ish Shalom, of the Alignment, is expected to be appointed deputy mayor.
