The National Women’s League of the United Synagogue of America, parent body of 800 sisterhoods of Conservative synagogues in North America, will mark the 50th anniversary of its founding over the week-end of Jan. 19-21. The ‘Golden Jubilee” will be observed by special events, prayers and services in Conservative synagogues throughout the United States and Canada, according to Mrs. Sol Henkind, president of the League and Mrs. Simon Greenberg, chairman of its jubilee committee.
The National Women’s League was founded in Jan. 1918 by Mrs. Solomon Schechter, wife of the second president of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. It has grown to be the largest synagogue women’s organization in the world with a membership of 200,000.
