An Arab convicted of illegal possession of arms and ammunition got off with a light sentence in a military court today after a trial in which he advocated non-violence as the only solution to the Arab-Israel dispute.

The defendant, who received a one-year sentence, was Faisal Abdul Kader el Houseini, son of the commander of Arab forces in Jerusalem who was killed in the battle of Kastel during Israel’s war for independence in 1948. He reportedly told the court that he was convinced that non-violence was “the best way” to help the Arabs.
