Members of the American Jewish Congress throughout the United States were urged today by President Arthur Lelyveld to provide food, clothing and shelter to members of the Poor People’s march converging on Washington, Rabbi Lelyveld, asserting that the organization endorsed the purposes of the march and its principle of non-violence, called on Jewish community centers, Ys, synagogues and other Jewish Communal institutions to “open their doors and hearts” to the marchers.

Sponsors of the march agreed to change the name of the temporary town being erected in Washington to “The Resurrection City” from “City of Hope” at the request of the Jewish medical center in Los Angeles which has the latter name. The new name was chosen by Dr. Ralph Abernathy, head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which is sponsoring the demonstration, after the request was made by the Los Angeles institution.
