The adjustment of Canadian Jewry to changes that have taken place in this country in the past few years will be the main theme of the 15th plenary session of the Canadian Jewish Congress to be held here from May 16 to 20, it was announced today. More than 700 delegates are expected to attend. The keynote address will be delivered by Saul Hayes, executive vice-president of the Canadian Jewish Congress, who will analyze current trends among Canadian Jewry. Other speakers scheduled include Dr. William Korey, director of the United Nations office of the B’nai B’rith international commission, and Max Melamet, executive director of the World Jewish Congress, American Section. A series of workshops will be held on the role of Canadian Jews in communal and national affairs to be followed by a panel discussion on “the dynamics of change.”
Participants in the panel discussion will include Jacob Egit of Toronto; Melvin Fenson of Winnipeg, and Justice Abraham H. Lieff of the Ontario Supreme Court. Michael Garber, outgoing president of the CJ Congress and honorary counsel of Allied Jewish Community Services, will be the principal speaker at a Sunday night banquet marking the Congress’ 50th anniversary. The event will be chaired by Samuel Bronfman, chairman of the board of governors.
